Framed Print of American robin nest
American robin nest. Empty nest with the broken shell of an egg from an American robin (Turdus migratorius). The female builds the nest of grass and twigs, normally lays 2-3 eggs, and incubates them for 2 weeks until they hatch. She then feeds the chicks until they leave the nest after another 2 weeks. These birds are common throughout North America, living in woodland as well as in more built-up areas. They tend to breed and nest in the more northern parts of their range, migrating south during the winter. They are not true robins, instead being members of the thrush family. Photographed in British Columbia, Canada. Science Photo Library features Science and Medical images including photos and illustrations. © ALAN SIRULNIKOFF/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY
