Brahin meteorite. Fragment of the stony iron meteorite found near Brahin, in Belarus, in 1810. Meteorites are rocks that fall to Earth from space. Their composition can vary, and stony iron meteorites consist of iron alloys in rock. The Brahin meteorite is a type of stony iron meteorite called a Pallasite, originating in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. It consists of an alloy (silver colour) of iron and nickel, and rock crystals (brown) of olivine. The sample, which is 5.5 by 4.3 centimetres, has been lacquered to avoid rusting. It weighs 56.1 grams. 850 kilograms of material was recovered from the Brahin meteorite. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass).
