Framed Print of Cambrian invertebrates, artwork
Cambrian invertebrates. Artwork of Anomalocaris (centre and upper right) and Odaraia (lower left) invertebrates, swimming in an ancient sea during the Cambrian Period. This period is known for the Cambrian Explosion (around 500 million years ago), the evolution of an extremely diverse array of invertebrates. Anomalocaris was one of the largest of the invertebrates during this period, and one of the first known carnivores. It used its two front appendages to bring food to its circular mouth (centre left). Here, the one in the foreground is pursuing the three-finned Odaraia.
