Chelyuskin steamship trapped in ice. This Soviet ship left port in 1933 on a voyage of exploration through the Arctic. It subsequently got stuck in the ice, prompting a successful rescue operation using aircraft to find and rescue the crew. The expedition was led by Arctic explorer Otto Schmidt, and the ship was captained by Vladimir Voronin. The rescuers were among the first recipients of the title Hero of the Soviet Union. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang.
