Female assassin fly. Light micrograph of the whole body of a female assassin fly (Hilara cilipes). The body of the fly is divided into three parts: the abdomen at the end of which are the genitalia; the thorax with one pair of wings, one pair of halteres (balancers) and three pairs of legs; and the head, which has one pair of compound eyes and ocelli (simple eyes), a pair of antennae, a pair of maxillary palps and the proboscis. This fly has long strong legs, which end in prominent claws and sucking pads to seize and hold its prey. The proboscis is used to feed on the body fluids of its prey. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang.
