First solo transatlantic flight. Computer montage of the airplane Spirit of St Louis near the coast of Ireland on the first solo transatlantic flight, and its pilot Charles Lindbergh (1902-1974). He took off from Long Island, New York, USA, at 07:51 in the morning on 20 May 1927. He flew all that day, through the night and on through a second day of flying, reaching the coast of Ireland late that afternoon. Night had fallen when he finally landed in Paris, France, after a total of 33.5 hours in the air. The airplanes wingspan was 14 metres. A single nosecap propeller was powered by a Wright radial motor. The cockpit, below the wing, did not have a forward window, and a periscope was used to see what was in front of the airplane. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame.
