Framed Print of Human eyeball, artwork
Human eyeball. Artwork of a human eyeball, showing the outer sclera (white) and the structures at the front and back. At the front, the eye bulges in a protrusion called the cornea, below which is a clear fluid called the aqueous humour. Below that is the iris (here blue) and pupil (black). The pupil is the hole through which light enters the interior of the eye. The size of the pupil is controlled by muscles that cause the iris to expand and contract. Light then passes through the lens and is focused on the retina. The light falling on the retina produces electrical signals that are sent to the brain down the optic nerve (lower right) at the back of the eyeball.
