Ocellaris anemonefish

Ocellaris anemonefish (Amphiprion ocellaris) hidden in a sea anemone. Anemonefish, also called clownfish, live in association with sea anemones. Both partners benefit in a mutualistic association. Slime on the fishs skin prevents the anemones stinging cells from damaging it. The fish sleeps, evades danger, eats, and lays its eggs between the poisonous tentacles. The anemonefish cleans the anemone and also ensures a supply of food detritus for the anemone to feed on. This fish can reach a length of 14 centimetres. Photographed in the Indo-Pacific, Indonesia

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the enchanting world of the Ocellaris anemonefish, also known as clownfish, hidden within the vibrant embrace of a sea anemone. In this mesmerizing display of mutualistic association, both partners thrive and benefit from their close bond. The fish's skin secretes a protective slime that shields it from the stinging cells of the anemone, allowing it to peacefully sleep, evade danger, nourish itself, and even lay its eggs amidst the tentacles' poison. As nature's ingenious collaboration unfolds beneath the ocean's surface in Indonesia's Indo-Pacific region, this remarkable fish assumes another role: that of caretaker. It diligently cleans its host anemone while ensuring a steady supply of food detritus for its partner to feast upon. With a maximum length reaching 14 centimeters, this orange-hued creature exemplifies the wonders found within our planet's aquatic realm. The photograph not only showcases these fascinating creatures but also highlights their symbiotic relationship—a testament to nature's intricate balance and interdependence. From Southeast Asia to marine biology enthusiasts worldwide, this image serves as a reminder of our planet's rich biodiversity and offers glimpses into one of Earth’s most captivating duos—the Ocellaris anemonefish and their beloved sea anemones.
