Framed Print of MiG-29 fighter jet C016 / 7626
A Russian MiG-29 OVT fighter just after take-off. This development prototype features thrust-vectoring nozzles on its engines. These allow the engine exhaust to be pointed off-centre to help increase manoeuvrability. A product of the Mikoyan-Guryevich design bureau, the MiG-29 (NATO reporting name Fulcrum ) is a fourth-generation air superiority fighter. It is powered by two Klimov RD-33 afterburning turbofan jet engines and can reach speeds of Mach 2.25 (2400 km/h) and a ceiling of 18, 000 metres. It is armed with a 30mm cannon and seven hardpoints that can carry missiles, bombs, rocket packs and fuel tanks. The MiG-29 first flew in 1977, entered service in 1983 and over 1600 have been built. MiG-29s have been sold to many air forces across the world. Science Photo Library features Science and Medical images including photos and illustrations. © RIA NOVOSTI/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY
