Gemini constellation. Stars of Castor (at centre) and Pollux (at lower centre) in the constellation of Gemini (the Twins). Castor (Alpha Geminorum) and Pollux (Beta Geminorum) form the heads of 2 twins; the bodies are represented by dimmer stars towards bottom left. The stars often represented opposing characters or behaviours in mythology. Castor is not a single star but a system of 3 binary stars about 45 light years away. The components of these stars orbit around each other every 2.9 days, 9.2 days and 10, 000 years respectively. Pollux is a single star about 35 light years away which, although cooler than the Sun, has four times the diamater and is 35 times as bright. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame.
