Framed Print of Railway line construction
Railway line construction. Roller vehicle being used to flatten the rock base for a railway line. This construction work is being carried out on the Amur-Yakutsk Mainline (AYAM) railway line in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), in eastern Russia. The Amur-Yakutsk railway line construction was one of several rail projects intended to make the remote regions of Siberia more accessible. Construction started in Soviet times in Amur, and by the time the USSR collapsed, had reached as far as Neryungri, 350 kilometres short of its destination. Construction was later restarted, and the railway is scheduled for completion in 2010. Photographed in 2005.
