EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the Bellanca Model CD aeroplane, a remarkable aircraft designed by Italian-US engineer Giuseppe Mario Bellanca in the 1920s. Born in Italy, Bellanca migrated to the United States in 1911 and established a flying school in New York City. His expertise led him to design two-seater biplane trainers for the Maryland Pressed Steel Company between 1917 and 1919. The featured aircraft, known as the Bellanca Model CD, boasted a powerful 35 horsepower engine. Its sleek design and advanced technology made it an exceptional aerial trainer during its time. This historical image captures not only the beauty of this single-engine monoplane but also represents a significant milestone in aviation history. Intrigued by his own creations, Giuseppe Mario Bellanca went on to establish his own company, aptly named the Bellanca Aircraft Company, in 1927. The impact of his innovative designs reverberated throughout North America's aviation industry during the early twentieth century. Transport yourself back to this transformative era with this stunning photograph that encapsulates both technological progress and human ingenuity. It serves as a testament to how far we have come since then while honoring an influential figure like Giuseppe Mario Bellanca who played an integral role in shaping modern flight.
