John Tyndall (2nd August 1820 - 4 December 1893) was a well known Irish-born physicist who worked on diamagnetism, thermal radiation and atmospheric processes. He was also a mountain climber, spending much time in the alps - he climbed the Matterhorn within three years of the first ascent. He wrote on Glaciers and glacial flow - work that set him in conflict with accepted expert James David Forbes. Later in life he became an advocate for the separation of science and religion, and was associated with Darwin in the eyes of the public. He advocated Darwinism but there is no clear evidence that he was an atheist. He thought that knowledge and rationality belonged with science and faith and spiritualism with religion. He was ardent in his opposition of Irish Home Rule, which he saw as a coup for priests and Catholcism. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass).
